Our History

1970Ellingson Drainage is founded, installing concrete and clay tile with a wheel trencher in West Concord, MN.
1971Purchase a laser-guided high speed trencher for tile installation – and permanently changed from clay and concrete drainage tile to longer lasting, higher quality plastic drainage tile.
1976Purchase our first tile plow – and transitioned from installing tile using the trenching method to installing tile using the plowing method.

1979Notice of Incorporation and expand from 1 machine to 2 machines.
1989Invest in first computerized mapping system, AutoCAD design system and a Total Station – leading to more efficient and more accurate maps and designs.
1996Begin offering utility construction services.
1999Re-brand as Ellingson Companies and purchase our first directional drilling machine to install first commercial septic project.
2000Expand and open a new office in the Red River Valley.
2003Installs first gas line utilizing the plowing method.
2006Starts installing tile projects exclusively by GPS coordination.
2009Opens 18,400 square foot Red River Valley facility in Harwood, ND.
2010Expands services and offers pipe relining with the advanced Cured in Place Pipe technology.
2012Adds large diameter directional drill to fleet.
2013Expands services to provide Infrastructure Assessments and management.
2014Added 45,000 square feet to the West Concord office.
2018Rebrands all business groups under one name: Ellingson. Aligns strategy, mission and vision across all business groups for future growth.
2019Acquires Direct Technology Drilling (DTD) Adding industry-leading environmental remediation capabilities to growing portfolio of trenchless construction services.
2020Turns 50! Celebrates 50th company anniversary by toasting to the three generations of history and clear vision for the future.
