A customer contacted Ellingson about a complete design/build controlled drainage solution. There was a need to drain excess water from the soil profile during planting, growing and harvest season, but also a need to have the ability to retain water in the profile during a precipitation deficit season. The customer wanted the ability to manage drainage outflows and take proactive measures to address any potential nutrient loading. Ellingson designed and built a Pattern Drainage Water Management system with control structures and pumped outlet – a system that would be able to regulate how and when the tile system would release water or hold back in dry conditions. The system was designed to adapt to subsurface irrigation if needed in the future – offering flexibility, additional yield, and reduced risk for the grower moving forward.
